AFC Newbury Girls Football Under 12
Match Report -- Season 2004-5
PHYL Under 12 Girls 25th September 2004
AFC Newbury Girls 5 Hatchwarren 2
Newbury's first league game of the season went to the home team and in a game they dominated from start to finish. For all of Newbury's good football and pressure the visitors defended very well and managed to get bodies in the way of goal bound shots.

Chances were to come the way of Sophie and Lucy but both put theirs shots wide. It was Katie, Newbury's player of the match, who broke the deadlock with a good run down the right wing before she cut in and squared the ball for Ruby to fire the home team ahead. But, just before the break Newbury were caught out and, when Kellie spilled the ball, there was a Hatchwarren player on hand to level the game.

The second half saw the same pattern with Newbury doing all the attacking and Hatchwarren defending in numbers. It was Lucy who restored Newbury's lead with a long range shot that beat the goalie at the near post. Sophie and Katie both then saw goal bound shots deflect off defenders to increase the lead. Sophie added another after good work from Katie and Ruby and Hatchwarren grabbed a consolation when Kellie saved a good shot, but then saw it roll out of her hands into the net.

Newbury took the points that they certainly deserved from a good all round display.
