Newbury Ladies Football
Match Report -- Season 2018-19
Thames Valley Counties Women's Football League
Division 2 South
Sunday 2nd December 2018
Newbury Ladies Development 0 Milton Utd 6
Table toppers, Milton United were the visitors to Donnington for the Newbury Ladies FC Development Team, who were in good spirits, having scored six past Stanford Ladies last time out. Sadly, the home team found themselves on the reverse of that score-line, with first team goalkeeper, Kat Brown, unable to prevent a drubbing.

Newbury kicked off the match, but Milton United’s midfielders were quick to dispossess their hosts and launch a very quick break-away attack, but they could only fire straight at Brown in the Newbury goal. Five minutes later, Bec Walker was played in behind the Milton defensive line and with just the keeper to beat, she tried to place her shot just inside the far post. The goalkeeper did well to produce a finger tip save and Newbury had to settle for a corner.

It was Milton who broke the deadlock on nine minutes, after another quick break, which resulted in the striker getting her shot away. Brown produced a good parried save, but the second Milton striker followed up to stab home for one nil. And it was two nil after 22 minutes when a thunderbolt shot from 20 yards sailed in for Milton United.

Newbury then regrouped and were able to steady the ship. It became a more even contest as half time approached. But right on the stroke of the interval, Newbury conceded a third after Milton’s striker broke the off-side trap to race onto a lobbed ball and prod in for three nil. This gave Newbury a mountain to climb.

Milton United started the second period strongly and they extended their lead just after the hour mark, when Newbury failed to deal with a ball pumped through the middle. The visitors were now cruising at four nil. So it was no surprise when they added a fifth goal five minutes later. Again, Newbury failed to deal with a diagonal ball into their final third and the Milton wide player had an easy run in, dispatching her shot clinically.

Having also rattled the Newbury crossbar in the final period, Milton wrapped up the scoring in the 81st minute, when another stunning shot from distance flew into the top corner. The game ended 6-0 to the visitors and it had been an assured and ruthless performance from Milton United’s young side. It was easy to see just why they sit at the top of the Division Two South table in the Thames Valley Counties Women’s League.
