AFC Newbury Girls Under 12 Football
Match Report -- Season 2004-5
Peter Houseman Youth League - Girls Under 12
11th December 2004
AFC Newbury 3 Kingsclere 0
A game which was slow to get going, with both teams unable to retain possession or mount any real attack. The home team began to string some passes together and with virtually the first real attack were gifted a penalty when Ruby's cross was handled in the penalty area. They should have taken the lead but with one keeper up against another it was the away goalie who came out on top with a fine save diving to her right to keep the scores level. This raised the game and Newbury began to play some good football and just before the break Newbury were again awarded another penalty when Lucy burst into the penalty area and was brought down from behind. This time Honor made no mistake in dispatching the spot kick with a fine shot into the bottom right hand corner to give Newbury the lead at half time.

The second half did start better and again it was the home team who began to control the game and with the nice football they were playing, openings were soon to come. The first chance with good work from Naomi who made a first made a good tackle in her own box then carried the ball to the half way and sent a good pass out wide to where Kellie was who passed to Ruby who got down the wing before crossing into the penalty area into the path of oncoming Charlotte who timed her run well and stroked the ball home beating a stranded keeper. Kingsclere began to get into the game but every time they got into Newbury's half Emma, Naomi & Chelsea were on hand to get their tackles in time and again and with these players on form the defence stood firm. The home team grabbed a third when Chelsea cleared from her own area rode a few tackles before chipping a perfect pass to Holly who turned beautifully on the edge of the area and then shot straight away on the turn and her shot was unstoppable and screamed into the top of the net. This completed the scoring and put the game beyond the visitors and ensured all three points.
