AFC Newbury Girls Under 12 Football
Match Report -- Season 2004-5
Peter Houseman Youth League - Girls Under 12
9th April 2005
Basinstoke Town Colts 0 AFC Newbury 8
The game started in a flurry with the away team out of the blocks from the whistle. They were very unlucky not to score in the opening minute when Lucy latched on to a fine pass from Katie and had to watch as her fierce shot skimmed the wrong side of the post with the goalie already beat. The visitors began to dominate and had Basingstoke hemmed in their own half and it was only a matter of time before Newbury scored. The first goal came when Ruby collected the ball on the half way line, broke down the wing and then cut inside beating a few defenders before fining home into the bottom far corner with ease. Lucy made it two minutes later when she dribbled her way past most of the home team and then unleashed a left foot shot into the corner of goal which nearly broke the net when it whizzed past the diving keeper. Charlotte made it four by the interval with two goals in quick succession, her first came when she turned well onto a cross by Sophie and slipped the ball under an oncoming keeper for her first and when Katie’s right foot volley which she drove straight at the keeper rebounded Charlotte was on hand to tap into an empty net.

The second half started in the same fashion but with Honor now on pitch. She made an instant impact and with virtually her first pass she put Charlotte through and only a great save from the keeper stopped her grabbing her hat trick. Newbury continued to press and when Molly cleared with distance Honor was through and thumped home number five from close range. Honor made it six with a fine solo run when she bullied her way through a number of players and from the edge of the area hit another wonder strike. Chelsea scored the goal of the game when she ran nearly the whole length of the pitch beating every player on the way and firing a long range effort with her weaker left foot, which gave the goalie no chance. Newbury sealed the points and saw their lead increased when Lucy saw a cross deflected by a home team player into her own net to complete a miserable day for Basingstoke in the final minutes.
