Newbury Ladies Development 2 Wallingford Town 4
Newbury Ladies Development Team had a rearranged game in league action when they hosted Wallingford Town Ladies FC at the Donnington Recreation Ground.

Wallingford kicked off but it was Newbury first on the attack with Nicole Beesley making a strong run down the left and crossing in for Rebecca Chitolie whose shot went wide of the post. Wallingford recovered quickly to have a shot deflected onto the post for a corner. Newbury were then quite dominant for the next 10 minutes but much against the flow of play Wallingford had a quick break and the score was 0-1. Within 2 minutes however Newbury equalised when Bex Walker received the ball from a throw deep in the Wallingford half and crossed to Chitolie who hammered the ball into the net.

However Wallingford scored again a minute later when the ball was crossed in from the right to the far post when the Wallingford player from 1 yard struck the ball against the diving New bury keeper and onto the post where it crept over the line. The score was now 1-2.

The crazy game continued with Walker, 2 minutes later, putting in a good shot which the keeper pushed over the bar for a corner. A short corner was played to Beesley whose cross was deflected out to Chitolie who shot was unstoppable from 20 yards. The assistant had flagged for offside but this was overruled by the referee to make the score 2-2.

Newbury continued to attack with shots by Walker and Chitolie but these were over the bar or saved. Then on 28 mins Newbury lost the ball in a tackle and the Wallingford attacker seized on the ball and 1 on 1 with the Newbury keeper scored a well taken goal to make the score 2-3. Minutes later this happened again but this time Isted in goal was able to get a foot on the well aim shot to deflect the ball for a corner. This was cleared but the ball came in again and the shot hit the post to run along the goal line and hit the far post before going in for 2-4.

Newbury resumed their attacking with the Wallingford keeper making saves. With 10 minutes to halfe time a resultant corner was headed just wide by Capt Maria Rodrigues,

The second half continued with Newbury attacking and the defence more organised but all the good work would not lead to a goal. Beesley, Walker, Rodrigues and Chitolie all had chances but were unable to get the ball into the net and the defnece with Saide Gulliver and Nicole Pearce were coping well with the odd attacks. There were the odd moments of frantic action near the Newbury goal but in this half the defence won out.

It was Wallingford who ran out the winners which was largely due to the excellent finishing by their striker who scored all 4 goals, taking her opportunities with great skill.

Player of the Match for Newbury Ladies Development Team was goalkeeper Nicky Isted.
